Museum and Memorial Complex of the Allied (Northern) Convoys and Lend-Lease in St. Petersburg will be created!

On December 2, 2022 a meeting was held between the management of the "Northern Convoys International Centre" Foundation - the Chairman of the Board of trustees Pavel Ozhgikhin  and the Director of the Foundation Vladimir Solomonov on one part - and the Head of St. Petersburg Committee on Arctic Affairs German Shirokov on the other.

The meeting discussed the creation of a Museum and Memorial Complex of the Allied (Northern) Convoys and the Lend-Lease History in St. Petersburg. Suggestions on project’s implementation and the Concept of the museum and memorial complex were presented by Vladimir Solomonov, the Director of the "Northern Convoys International Centre" Foundation.

In particular, at the first stage of the project implementation it was suggested to create a working group on the level of executive bodies of state power of St. Petersburg and to hold an interdepartmental meeting with participation of representatives of Arctic zone regions in St. Petersburg and Committees of St. Petersburg on culture, property relations, external relations, youth policy and cooperation with public organizations, education, social policy and tourism development.

For his part, German Shirokov, the chairman of St. Petersburg Committee on Arctic Affairs, stated that initiatives and projects for preserving historical memory and patriotic upbringing of youth are supported on the state level, so the work in this direction will be continued. It was decided to hold an interdepartmental meeting on the implementation of the project of the museum and memorial complex in January 2023.

Earlier, the "Northern Convoys International Centre" Foundation’s proposal to create the Museum and Memorial Complex of the Northern (Allied) Convoys and the Lend-Lease History in St. Petersburg was approved by the Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, who noted in a response letter to the Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees that the initiative to create this complex "requires further consideration and will be worked through in due course".
