The “NCIC” Foundation is the Regional operator of the “Arctic Necropolis” project

“Arctic Necropolis” is a historical and memorial Internet resource with background information about the coordinates of death and burial places of Arctic sea and air operations’ participants and places of shipwrecks in the Arctic.

The project is being implemented by the Arctic Research Center and the External Relations Department of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District of Russia (YNAO) with the support of the Government of YNAO.

Anyone can take part in the project as the active involvement of volunteers is planned.

The Internet database “Arctic Necropolis” will include information about naval and civil ships that took part in the Northern convoys during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and were destroyed  and went down in the Arctic offshore zone of the Russian Federation, as well as about their crew members and other persons on board, their burial places.

At the next stages of implementing the “Arctic Necropolis” project, information will be collected about people and ships who either lost their lives or have gone missing in the Arctic seas in different historical periods, as well as about places of perpetuation of their memory.

The database “Arctic Necropolis” is international due to the nature of the collected data, database objects and project’s territorial characteristics.

The Northern Convoys International Centre thanks Sergey Shulinin, the scientific advisor of the “Arctic Necropolis” project, for the information provided.
