On February 8, 2022 an online museum conference "Break the Ice: New Connections across the North" took place. The conference was jointly organized by the British Council, Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy in Moscow, the Western Approaches Museum in Liverpool and the Northern Maritime Museum in Arkhangelsk.
The conference, marking the 80th anniversary of the Northern Convoys, was designed to bring together leading museums, cultural institutions and specialists from the UK and northern regions of Russia.
The International Centre took part with a 5-minute presentation of our activities and new projects at a round table discussion "Arctic Convoys: shared war history and how it is remembered". The presentation, presented by Vladimir Solomonov, Director of the International Centre, together with Elena Eltz, Associate Professor at St. Petersburg State University, also told about the productive and close cooperation between our organization and the Department of International Humanitarian Relations of the Faculty of International Relations at St. Petersburg State University.
The conference was attended by representatives of major museums in the UK and Russia and representatives of public organizations. The presence at the conference of a veteran of the Northern Convoys from the UK was especially valuable.
The International Centre expresses sincere gratitude to the conference organizers and Elena Eltz for the cooperation!
