The Exhibition and Presentation by the Foundation at the Conference in the Presidential Academy

On October 31, the International Scientific Conference "500 Years Since the Beginning of the Exploration of the Northern Sea Route: History and Modernity" was held at the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) in Saint Petersburg.

The conference was attended by representatives of scientific and museum communities from Saint Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Moscow, as well as foreign participants. Presentations covered a wide range of topics related to the history of exploration and the legal status of the Northern Sea Route, Eurasian transport connectivity, and the current economic, logistical, and environmental aspects of Arctic development. Special attention was given to international cooperation, the development of the Trans-Arctic transport corridor, the icebreaker fleet, and scientific and hydrometeorological support for navigation, providing a comprehensive view of the past, present, and future prospects of the Arctic region.

The Director of the "Northern Convoys International Centre" Foundation, V.P. Solomonov, participated in the conference section "History of Exploration and Navigation on the NSR," presenting a report jointly with Associate Professor E.E. Elts of the Department of International Humanitarian Relations at St. Petersburg State University. Their presentation was titled "The Chief Directorate of the Northern Sea Route and the Icebreaker Fleet during the Great Patriotic War: On the 500th Anniversary of Russia's Exploration of the Northern Sea Route."

Simultaneously with the conference, the Foundation's exhibition dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Russia's exploration of the Northern Sea Route was presented in the reading room of the RANEPA Scientific Library. The exhibition showcased items from the Foundation's collection, reflecting the history of the icebreaker fleet, the Northern Sea Route, and honoring the heroes who worked in the Arctic region for the benefit of the country and for Victory during the Great Patriotic War.

Among the exhibits were personal items of Captain 1st Rank P.I. Patrushev, a participant in the Northern Convoys who served on the destroyer "Detyatelny" of the Northern Fleet, and Captain 2nd Rank A.A. Shabalin of the Merchant Fleet — including photographs, the menu from the icebreaker "Iosif Stalin," notes on magnetic compass deviation, the "For Labor Valor" medal, and other artifacts.

The exhibition was warmly received by conference participants. The Foundation expresses gratitude to the leadership of RANEPA Saint Petersburg and the staff of the Scientific Library for their support.
