On 27 March 2025, a round table ‘Preserving Historical Memory of the Contribution of the Allied (Northern) Convoys 1941-1945 to the Victory in the Great Patriotic War’ was held.
The event, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, was prepared by the Department of International Humanitarian Relations of the Faculty of International Relations of St. Petersburg State University and the "Northern Convoys International Centre" Foundation.
The round table was held in a mixed format and had both interuniversity and international character. The Director of the ‘NCIC’ Foundation, teachers and students of St. Petersburg State University and Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping, as well as a researcher - representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan took part in the round table.
The meeting was opened by Vladimir Solomonov, Director of the ‘NCIC’ Foundation, who made a welcoming speech to the participants of the event and told about the activities of the Foundation.
The speech of Christina Minkova, Professor of the Department of American Studies of St. Petersburg State University was devoted to the contribution of the Allied convoys to the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War and the role of lend-lease.
Svetlana Strinyuk, Associate Professor of the English Language Department at the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping, gave a speech on ‘Patriotic education in the framework of the Professional English course: practical application of materials about the Northern Convoys’.
The theme of historical memory in the conditions of information society was reflected in the report of Maria Portnyagina, Associate Professor of the Department of International Humanitarian Relations of St. Petersburg State University.
In a joint speech Associate Professors of the Department of International Humanitarian Relations of SPbSU Natalia Bogolyubova and Yulia Nikolaeva told about the established traditions of cooperation between the Department and the "NCIC" Foundation and suggested ways to deepen cooperation.
Parvin Fakhraddin oglu Gozalov, a scientist from the Republic of Azerbaijan, director of the public organisation ‘GASR’, board member of the International Committee of Military Museums and Collections of Weapons and Military History, presented little-known pages of the history of the Trans-Iranian Lend-Lease Route.
Prospects of cooperation with Azerbaijani scientists and higher educational institutions in the study of the Trans-Iranian Lend-Lease Route, as well as the role of exhibition activities of the ICSC Foundation in the development of international cultural cooperation were presented in the report of Elena Elts, Associate Professor of the Department of International Humanitarian Relations of St. Petersburg State University.
An important part of the event were the reports of the students: Oleg Glukhovsky, Alexandra Temerbaeva and Anna Kalyuzhnaya, first-year undergraduates of the International Humanitarian Relations programme at SPbSU, presented the results of their internship at the "NCIC" Foundation, as well as Anna Kovarskaya, a third-year student of the Admiral Makarov University, who presented a report on Arkhangelsk as a centre of international cooperation in World War II.
